Do we need drone equipment or flight instructors?

No, Our course is 100% online and includes theory and application. Students learn the regulations and knowledge needed to pass the FAA Part 107 written exam. No drones, no prior experience, and no flight training required.

How long does it take students to complete the course?

The FAA recommends a minimum of 20 hours of study prior to taking their exam. Our course includes 26 hours of flexible instruction where students learn at their own pace, from their computer or tablet, from their home or anywhere that has internet access. Most students complete the course within 2-4 weeks. We highly recommend the student schedule and sit for the FAA exam within 30 days of completing our course.

When a student completes this course, will they be a Certified Drone Pilot?

The FAA requires any person flying a drone for commercial purposes to obtain a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification. Part of that requirement is successfully passing the FAA Part 107 (Aeronautical Knowledge) Exam. This course will properly prepare the student to take the FAA exam. Once the student has successfully passed the exam, they must apply for a FAA Remote Pilot Certification with a Small Unmanned Aircraft System Rating via the FAA website.

Are there any costs to the student beyond the enrollment fee for this course?

Innovative Drone Institute does not charge any student any additional fees beyond the initial enrollment. There is, however, a fee paid to PSI when the student schedules to take their FAA exam. The FAA has designated PSI Testing Centers as the only authorized proctor for the FAA Part 107 (Aeronautical Knowledge) Exam. PSI has hundreds of locations across the country, and the test must be taken at one of their locations. PSI will charge the student a fee (currently $175) for taking this exam. This money goes directly to PSI Testing Centers. Innovative Drone Institute is not associated with PSI and does not receive any monies from this fee. However, with our Pass On First Attempt Guarantee, Innovative Drone Institute is so sure our students will be properly prepared to take this exam, we will reimburse directly to the student their $175 PSI fee if they fail the exam on their first attempt.

What if FAA regulations change after we launch?

We monitor FAA updates daily and revise curriculum within 5 business days of any change. Your students will always learn current standards.

Can we integrate this with our existing LMS?

The Custom Program model will utilize your existing LMS system, and we will work with your technical team to assure it is fully integrated. The Revenue Share and Annual License models utilize Innovate Drone Institute's LMS system.

What kind of support do you provide?

We provide student email support, technical assistance, and ongoing curriculum updates. Response times average around 2 hours. We will also be able to provide assistance via phone or virtual meeting where support requires additional assistance.

Do I need a license to fly drones commercially?

Yes, you need an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate to fly drones for any commercial purpose, including photography, real estate, or for anything that promotes or benefits a business or organization.

What do I need to become a certified drone pilot?

You need to be at least 16 years old, pass the FAA Part 107 aeronautical knowledge exam, and complete a background check through the TSA.

How old do you have to be to get drone certified?

You must be at least 16 years old to receive Part 107 certification, although you can take the exam at age 14 with proper preparation.

Can I fly drones without certification?

You can fly recreationally under FAA recreational rules provided you have passed the TRUST test and earned a TRUST certificate, but any commercial use requires Part 107 certification, including selling photos or providing services for compensation or barter.

What's the difference between recreational and commercial drone flying?

Recreational flying is for fun with basic safety rules, while commercial flying requires FAA Part 107 certification and allows you to earn money from drone operations.

If I take this course, will I automatically have my FAA Remote Pilot Certification?

No. Our Part 107 Remote Pilot Prep Course is just as the name implies. It prepares you to take the FAA Aeronautical Exam. The FAA Aeronautical Exam is quite difficult, so much so that it would be impossible for anyone without prior aviation knowledge to pass it without proper preparation. That's where our Prep Course comes in. We provide you everything you need properly prepare for the exam through lessons, quizzes, exams and practical exams. We even offer a guarantee that if you take our course and complete all our requirements, we'll rebate you the $175 PSI fee if you fail to pass on your first attempt

How hard is the drone pilot test?

The Part 107 Aeronautical Knowledge exam is challenging. It requires a passing score of 70% or higher and covers complex aviation topics like airspace, reading aeronautical charts, and weather. Without prior aviation experience, it would be almost impossible for someone to pass this exam without proper preparation. The FAA recommends at least 20 hours of study prior to taking the exam.

What's the easiest way to pass the drone exam?

Take a comprehensive prep course that covers all exam topics systematically, rather than trying to self-study from scattered online resources and FAA materials.

Can I pass the drone test without aviation experience?

Yes, many people pass without prior aviation experience, provided they take the time to learn the concepts. This normally requires comprehensive training covering regulations and topics that aren't normally intuitive to beginners.

How long does it take to get drone certified?

After passing the exam, certification typically takes 2-6 weeks for FAA processing, though you can start commercial operations once your temporary certificate is issued by the FAA.

Is drone certification worth the cost?

Yes, certification opens commercial opportunities in photography, videography, real estate, surveying, agriculture, and inspection services that can quickly recover the investment cost.

It is a separate fee paid directly to PSI at the time you schedule for the test. It is not part of your enrollment fee for this Part 107 Remote Pilot Prep Course.
